Ever since the wrist-watch was first invented in 1923, it has become an item that pretty much everyone has owned. Lately though, these simple wrist-watches are starting to evolve into something spectacular, something more than just a device on your arm that tells you the time.  As most of us know, many of these “smart” or “fitness” watches come at a pretty high price. So what if you want a watch that tracks your fitness, but you don’t want to break the bank? Well, let me introduce you to the Misfit Shine.

Misfit Shine

The Misfit Shine is one of the most minimalistic tracking devices on the market. It’s an odd looking circular device that will track your daily activities and sleep patterns. It is constructed of aluminum that has a matte finish, which really sets it apart from other fitness trackers. It’s simplistic design is quite attractive and if you don’t already know what it is, it would be hard to even guess it’s a fitness tracker. You won’t find a screen, buttons, or ports anywhere on this little device.

The Shine could be put under the pedometer category, it uses sensors to track anything from your steps to more active movement such as swimming or sports.  And it doesn’t stop there, the Shine can actually track your sleep as well, which is becoming a popular function that’s integrated in many fitness trackers today.  The Shine syncs up with your phone via Bluetooth to load all of your data into the intuitive app.

So what sets the Shine apart from many other tracking devices? Well the biggest feature that the shine has is that it’s waterproof. This allows you to go swimming or maybe just take a shower without worrying about the tracker breaking.  And instead of the Shine having a screen it uses tiny LED dots to display things such as time and how much of your daily goal you have achieved. The only downfall here is that in order to see details such as steps you have taken or calories you have burned, you must open the app on your phone.

Misfit Shine BoxMisfit was looking to design a fitness tracker thats suited any occasion, whether you are dressing up or going out for a jog.  The Shine is a stylish yet very minimalistic tracker, but the question is, is it worth $50? It really depends on what you’re looking for in a fitness tracker. If you want a tracker that is highly geared towards fitness and provides immediate details such as steps taken or distance walked, the Shine may not be right for you. Yet, if you are looking for a simple, elegant fitness tracker that gives you the time and your goal accomplishment, it may be exactly what you’re looking for.
